Effective date: July 19, 2026
This policy describes how the PianoBit Android application ("PianoBit", "the app", "we") handles your information. PianoBit is designed to work offline and to collect as little data as possible.
Summary: PianoBit shows no ads and sells no data. The microphone is never recorded. The only data that leaves your device is your email address and practice statistics — and only if you choose to create an optional sync account.
PianoBit can use your device's microphone for real-time pitch detection: when you enable the mic feature, the app analyzes the audio signal on your device to detect which musical note is being played or sung, and lights that note up on the on-screen keyboard.
PianoBit does not require an account. All learning features work without one, completely offline.
If you choose to create a free sync account (Settings → Cloud Sync), the following data is stored using Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore):
| Data | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Email address and password | Creating and signing in to your account (the password is handled by Firebase Authentication; we never see it in plain text) |
| Practice statistics (practice time, streaks, accuracy, songs played) | Syncing your progress across your devices |
| App preferences (player name, avatar choice, theme color, settings) | Syncing your settings across your devices |
This data is encrypted in transit, is accessible only to your account, and is never shared with, or sold to, anyone. Firebase is a service provided by Google LLC; its processing is covered by Google's Firebase privacy documentation.
You can permanently delete your account and all synced cloud data at any time, directly in the app: Settings → Cloud Sync → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible. See our account deletion page for details, including how to request deletion if you have already uninstalled the app.
MIDI and MusicXML files you import are copied to the app's private storage on your device so they can be replayed. They are never uploaded and are removed if you uninstall the app.
If you connect a MIDI keyboard, PianoBit uses Bluetooth or USB only to receive the notes you play. No Bluetooth data is stored or transmitted elsewhere, and no location data is collected. (On Android 11 and below, Android requires the location permission to scan for Bluetooth devices; PianoBit does not access or use your actual location.)
Optional in-app purchases (such as the PianoBit Pro one-time lifetime unlock) are processed securely by Google Play via the official Google Play In-App Billing system. PianoBit never sees, collects, or stores your credit card, bank account, or payment details. Google Play handles all transactions directly and provides PianoBit only with an anonymous purchase receipt token to activate your Pro features.
PianoBit is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with an updated effective date.
